On weekends, you may have to park on the road as Gopal’s parking lot is usually full. Also, try to reach by around 12.30-12.45, or you will have to wait for a table.

When we went on May 6, a Saturday, people were standing near tables of those who had almost finished, to grab the table. The waiters were serving as fast as they could to manage the crowd. But somehow, the waiting crowd just seemed to grow more. This is always the situation here on Saturdays and Sundays.

And there is only one reason - absolutely superb food with a homemade touch.

The quality at Gopal has not fallen at all over the years. The teesrio is so amazing, we don’t even have words to express.

Maria and I had visited with our dear friend and neighbour Evelyn Leitao, who has been coming to Gopal with her husband Remy for years.

Seeing us enjoy the teesrio, Evelyn said she will cook it for us. May everyone be fortunate to have such friends who will cook teesrio at home for you!

We often stop by here for lunch when returning to Salcette from the north.

The following Monday, May 8, we had some work in Panjim, so we were back at Gopal’s for lunch. Of course, the meal has to begin with another round of delicious teesrios!

The kingfish #thali was excellent, as always, but today we want to highlight the really awesome #vegetarian Goan thali here. At Gopal’s you get three dry bhajis and two gravy bhajis, besides the dal, in the veg thali. This is quite uncommon in Goa.

The bhajis are also best of what is in season. Summer is Goa’s fruiting season so when we went, we got nirponnos fodis (breadfruit fritters) and ripe jackfruit seed bhaji. Absolutely yum.
