This is one of a series of videos describing the ascents of some of the Lakeland Fells featured in Alfred Wainwright's Pictorial Guides.
A video journey taken from a first-person perspective, of a circular walk from Ambleside to Wansfell Pike, Troutbeck and the popular Jenkin Crag.
Although Wansfell Pike is not a true Wainwright, its popularity and close proximity to Ambleside earns it a place our guide.
The actual Wansfell summit is at Baystones, about a mile to the north-east of Wansfell Pike, but as Wainwright describes it in his guide, "A grassy hummock, a little higher than many around". "It is an unattractive place, rarely visited; better is the rocky top of Wansfell Pike".
Our route does not follow the normal tourist path to Wansfell Pike from Ambleside but approaches the Pike from the south.
Also on this walk, is an opportunity to visit a unique piece of industrial archaeology. An Aqueduct Observatory, built during the construction of the Thirlmere to Manchester Aqueduct in 1897.
As usual with Cleveland Wayfarer videos, it is sub-titled with comments and descriptions, as we progress along the route.
Enjoy the walk.
