We all know the Christmas story very well. Mary and Joseph, baby Jesus, the star, the shepherds, the wise men... At times we can even overlook some of the details. But when I started writing about Christmas something struck me. There was no room in the Inn. Mary and Joseph tried to find a comfortable, worthy space to bring Jesus into this world, but only found closed doors. I started wondering about the people behind these doors. If this was a family member, or a loved one maybe they would have made room for them. Or maybe if Mary and Joseph could give them something in return...
Only if they knew....
Jesus gives us so much in return for simply opening the door to Him. Letting Him in will completely change your world. So I hope this spoken word blesses you this holiday season.
Have you opened the door?
Shout out to my awesome uncle for the beautiful soundtrack!
[Closed Doors]
Closed doors
That is what Jesus experienced on the night of His birth
Closed doors
No one to take Him in on His first coming to Earth
Can you imagine the agony?
Mary and Joseph trying to find a room to have the baby
Hoping that if they kept knocking someone would come
Just maybe
But all they were met with were closed doors
One by one they knocked
And one by one they were turned away
In a world he came to save
The Messiah had no place to stay
Can you imagine the confusion?
Mary and Joseph knew Jesus would be King
But instead of the royal treatment
They felt the sting
Of closed hearts, closed minds
Of those who wouldn’t make room
For Jesus Christ, the Son of God
The one who could save them from their doom
Closed doors
One by one they knocked
And one by one they were turned away
In a world He came to save
The Messiah had no place to stay
The funny thing is
Those people knew Jesus was coming since the days of old
Time and time again they read about Him
In the prophecies foretold
It makes me wonder if they would have opened the door
Had they known it was Him
Would their hearts have been open
To let the Savior come in?
Had they known this was the Messiah
They had been waiting for all those years
The one who could save their souls from destruction
And would wipe away all tears
Would they have thrown the doors open
And had a celebration worthy of a king
I can’t help but ask these questions
As I sit here wondering
Yet now He is still met with closed doors
So I guess I can compare that night
To the world we live in today
A world that buys presents and puts up lights
But keeps its doors closed on His birthday
A world that celebrates the baby
But fails to acknowledge the man
That breaks out the nativity scene for a couple weeks
And forgets all about it in that same time span
Closed doors
Yet He stands at the door and knocks
No matter how many times He’s shut out
Because seeking and saving the lost
Is what His coming was all about
One by one He knocks
Even when He’s turned away
In a would He came to save
The Messiah is still knocking today
His coming paved a way to heaven
A bridge from mankind to eternal glory
A way to connect directly to the Father
A happy ending to our earthly story
He came as a lowly baby
To should you His love is simple and true
He doesn’t need a big show for you to approach Him
He simply wants you
One by one He knocks
Even when He’s turned away
In a would He came to save
The Messiah is still knocking today
See, our sin separates us from God
But Jesus came to take our place
He stood the trial we deserve
We’re truly saved by grace
That is why I celebrate
Why this is my favorite time of year
Jesus was born to save my soul
Now that brings Christmas cheer
Did you know He is the Savior?
Did you know He came for you?
He left His glory and came as a baby
So you could be brand new
So maybe now you can help me answer
The question I had about that first silent night
Now that I told you what Christmas is all about
And now that I gave you the insight
One by one He knocks
Even when He’s turned away
In a would He came to save
The Messiah is still knocking today
Will you open the door?
Will you let Him come in?
Receive His love, receive His joy
Let your new life begin
Just like He came that starry night
One day He’s coming again
That’s why he knocks so desperately
Just hoping you’ll answer by then
