Coming up next from a triple bill of delightful preserved vehicles. We have some fantastical 1990's Leyland whining with the last of the big cats, The Leyland Lynx.
The Leyland Lynx was built in 1986 as a replacement for the Leyland National as an integral product which could be fitted with either a flat Mark 1 body a bolbous Mark 2 body. Engine choices available were either the Gardner 6HLXCT, Leyland TL11 or Cummins L10. Over a thousand Leyland Lynxes were built between 1986 & 1992, with the big cat being dropped following the takeover by Volvo with it's own product, The B10B.
G293KWY was brand new in 1989 as 201 for Keighley & District, where it operated for ten years before being bought by Soveriegn bus who operated for 3 years between 1999 and 2002 from their Stevenage & Hatfield garages with fleet code 293; before passing onto independants Stotts Coaches. Though currently in Cleveland Transit (though I know not if it ever operated with them), the plan is repaint this into Sovereign in line with owner Wes' Stevenage connection.
G293KWY is powered by a Cummins L10 engine coupled to ZF Ecomat 4 speed automatic gearbox, this video shows a private run from Ongar, ducking through the country lanes of Fyfield, Beauchamp Roding, White Roding before stopping at some temporary traffic lights near Hatfield Heath.
The ZF gearbox being particularly tuneful and delectablely whiny, with the Lynx reaching some considerable speed showing no signs of slowing down. Possibly some kickdown and thrash to be found here.
Hope you all like.
