Lerryn is a tranquil riverside village in South Cornwall, nestled in a wooded valley where stepping stones cross the River Lerryn, a tributary of the River Fowey.
This picturesque village lies about three miles southeast of Lostwithiel and is steeped in charm and history. Lerryn is split between the parishes of St Veep and St Winnow, with the river forming the boundary between them.
Restormel Castle is a striking 13th-century circular fortress near Lostwithiel in Cornwall, known for its rare shell keep design and commanding views over the River Fowey valley.
Perched on a grassy mound and surrounded by a deep moat, Restormel Castle was once a luxurious residence for the Earls and Dukes of Cornwall, including Edmund, Earl of Cornwall, who transformed it into a palace-like retreat. Its perfectly round curtain wall encloses the remains of a great hall, private chambers, and kitchens, all arranged around a central courtyard.
Originally built in the 12th century and later fortified in stone, the castle played a brief role in the English Civil War before falling into ruin. Today, managed by English Heritage, it offers visitors a peaceful glimpse into medieval aristocratic life, especially enchanting in spring when wildflowers bloom across the grounds
