Situated on a rocky outcrop just metres away from the sea. This beautiful building looks like something out of a fantasy film or a fairy tale. Although it was an active garrison for hundreds of years it was eventually turned in a magical home.
I am slightly sorry about the long walk up to the castle but it was a beautiful day and the views across the bay were wonderful. Also the journey up to the building itself is wonderful. I would have actually explored more but the tide is literally against you on Lindisfarne as it gets cut off from the mainland at various points during the day. If I didn't leave by 1:25pm I would have had to have waited almost 8 hours to leave Holy Island.
While the castle itself may be difficult to traverse for those with mobility issues. The walk and surrounding island are perfectly fine. There aren't many facilities at the castle itself but the village is just a few minutes walk and has lots of shops, resturants and some public toilets.
