After 2 weekends of trips in North Carolina, Norfolk and Western 4-8-4 #611 returned to Virginia to pull 2-days of excursions out of Roanoke in May. Reprising last years successful 4th of July excursions, these trips saw #611 depart from the former N&W Station (now the O. Winston Link Museum) and past the East End Shops where she was built. Operating on home rails the entire time, #611 pulled a half-day trip to Lynchburg each morning over the Blue Ridge grade. In the afternoon she traveled to Walton, climbing the steep 11-mile Christiansburg Mountain grade with her 20-car train.
