🎬 What’s in This Recipe
We slice and coat beef in cornstarch for a perfect crisp, shallow-fry it until golden, then toss it in a sticky orange sauce made with fresh juice, zest, soy, vinegar, and sesame oil. The result? Sweet, tangy, fragrant, and dangerously addictive.
🛒 INGREDIENTS
For the beef:
• 500g (1.1 lb) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
• 3 tbsp cornstarch
• Vegetable oil, for frying
For the sauce:
• ½ cup fresh orange juice
• Zest of 1 orange
• 2 tbsp soy sauce
• 1 tbsp rice vinegar
• 1 tsp sesame oil
• 2 tbsp sugar
Aromatics:
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
Slurry (thickener):
• ¼ tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp of the sauce
Optional for serving:
• Steamed white rice
• Steamed broccoli, cut into bite-sized florets
• Scallions
• Sesame seeds
🔥 PREPARATION STEPS
1️⃣ Coat the beef – Slice against the grain, toss in cornstarch, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
2️⃣ Make the sauce – Whisk together orange juice, zest, soy, vinegar, sesame oil, and sugar.
3️⃣ Fry the beef – Heat oil and fry in batches until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
4️⃣ Sauté aromatics – In the same pan, sauté garlic and ginger for 1 min until fragrant.
5️⃣ Finish the sauce – Add sauce to the pan, reduce by half, then stir in the slurry to thicken.
6️⃣ Combine – Toss beef in the sticky sauce until evenly coated.
7️⃣ Serve – Plate with steamed rice and broccoli. Garnish with scallions & sesame seeds.
