Recently while exploring the hole in the rock trail just outside of Escalante, UT, I noticed this tall rock spire which stood out alone, defying the relatively flat surroundings in the Grand Staircase National Monument.
Located southeast of the Town of Escalante and about halfway along the historic Hole in the rock trail towards its crossing of the Colorado River, Chimney Rock is an prominent 120 foot high rock formation known as a hoodoo.
Hoodoos are a type of geological formation characterized by a narrow pedestal supporting a larger capstone.
Chimney Rock is a short easy drive east of the main hole in the rock trail and is popular for hikers and rock climbers.
I developed this channel to chronicle my adventures in my Jeep Wrangler exploring trails and offroad locations throughout the western united states. I enjoy exploring remote locations which are rarely, if ever visited, always looking for remote locations that I imagine no other human has ever visited. If you are interested in remote trails, historical routes, ghost towns, abandoned mining camps, beautiful desert and mountain scenery, then this is a channel for you.
