Dangerous Expedition In Escalante , Utah. Part 1.

Описание: Our second expedition to an incredible and mysterious area in Escalante, Utah.
Here are some notes on the video part 1 and 2.

Gregory Natural Bridge is a natural sandstone bridge. The bridge was submerged under the waters of Lake Powell after the Glen Canyon Dam was completed in 1966. However, due to the receding water levels of Lake Powell, the bridge has become visible again after more than 50 years.

We were lucky enough to see it with our own eyes and even swim under it twice during our expeditions to this area in 2022 and 2023.
At this time, the Gregory Natural Bridge is back under water. Who knows for how long. And if we ever get a chance to see it again.

Although sailing on our rafts looks like a lot of fun, the opposite is true.
It is a rather strenuous job (activity). On our previous expedition it was only the actual paddling that was strenuous.
But on our second expedition we also had to fight with quite strong headwinds and thus bigger waves on the water surface.
At some moments we were paddling as hard as we could, but instead of moving to the front we were moving to the back and it was driving us crazy. In the film it is unfortunately not visible because it was impossible to film and paddle at the same time.

The Cathedral in the Desert
This place is one of the most magical and beautiful we have ever seen. We were lucky enough to see it in all its glory. And now, at the present time, it's half buried under water again.

Hole in the Rock
The path from the edge of the Hole in the Rock to the Lake Powell is a steep hike that follows the trail of the Mormon pioneers who crossed the Colorado River in 1879.
It took the pioneers six weeks of digging and blasting to make it passable for their wagons.
The descent is nearly 0.5 mile (0.8 km) with an average grade of 25 degrees, although some places are as steep as 45 degrees. The pioneers had to lower their wagons with ropes and chains, and use wooden planks and rocks to create a roadbed. Some of the original timbers and ironwork can still be seen along the route.

Climbing this section was really difficult. It is more of a scramble then hike.
The length of this climb is about 0.5 mile (0.8 km) and the elevation gain is about 660 ft (200mn).
With the weight on our backs it was really no fun. We also needed to bring as much water as possible. Because at the end of this climb we had about 5.3 mile (8.5 km) of desert walking ahead of us. We had 3 liters of water each and hoped that would be enough.
