Along Highway 12 approximately halfway between Boulder and Escalante Utah, there is a 4 mile stretch of highway famously known as The Hogsback. This stretch follows a ridge which represents the transition between the high mountains and rangelands around Boulder to the semi-arid slickrock Grand Staircase Escalante region known throughout the southern portion of Utah.
The video begins with the northerly approach to The Hogsback and eventually leads down into the Calf Creek watershed paralleling Calf Creek to where it flows into the Escalante River which eventually joins up with the Colorado River along the upper reaches of Lake Powell.
Even though this is paved road, I always enjoy travelling through this area, admiring the gorgeous scenery. Please enjoy.
