Actions Are Judged by Intentions”
Respected brothers and sisters,
Today, I would like to speak about one of the most important and famous Hadith of Islam.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Actions are judged by intentions,
and every person will get what he intended.
So whoever migrated for Allah and His Messenger,
his migration is for Allah and His Messenger.
And whoever migrated for worldly gain or to marry a woman, then his migration is for what he migrated for.”
(Reported by Bukhari and Muslim)
This Hadith teaches us that the value of every action depends on the intention behind it.
In Islam, intention is very important.
A small action done with a sincere intention can become very great in the sight of Allah,
while a big action done for showing off or worldly benefit may have no reward.
The Prophet ﷺ gave the example of migration (Hijrah).
During the early days of Islam, many Muslims migrated from Makkah to Madinah.
Those who migrated sincerely for the sake of Allah and to support Islam received great reward.
But if someone migrated only for worldly benefits or personal reasons,
then he would only receive what he intended, not spiritual reward.
This Hadith teaches several important lessons.
First, it reminds us to check our intentions before doing any good deed.
Whether it is prayer, charity, teaching, helping others,
or gaining knowledge, we must do it for the sake of Allah.
Second, it shows that Islam does not only focus on actions but also on the heart.
A pure and sincere intention makes our deeds valuable.
Third, this Hadith encourages us to make our daily activities acts of worship.
Even working, studying, or helping our family can become acts of worship if they are done with the intention of pleasing Allah.
Conclusion:
Respected brothers and sisters,
This Hadith is a foundation of Islamic teachings.
It reminds us that success in this world and the Hereafter depends on sincerity.
Therefore, we should always purify our intentions and seek the pleasure of Allah in every action.
May Allah grant us sincerity in our intentions and accept all our good deeds.
Ameen.
