This video presents Matlab examples of using the {diff} and {jacobian} commands from Symbolic Math toolbox. Jacobian matrices are widely used in linearization of process models, robotics, etc.
In particular, the video illustrates how chain rule works (product of Jacobian matrices), and the particular case of total versus partial derivatives in expressions q(y(t),t), i.e., (LaTeX notation):
\frac{dq}{dt}=\frac{\partial q}{\partial y}\frac{dy}{dt}+\frac{\partial q}{\partial t}.
