Week 2 of the Speed Block delivered an incredible breakthrough!
This was a full, structured week of training with hill strides, 5K pace 400s, a Mona Fartlek session, and a controlled parkrun effort at Isabel Trail, finishing with a brand new parkrun PB of 18:46.
I felt strong from the warm-up, moving fast with low effort and low heart rate. The race itself went perfectly — controlled start, negative splits, and one of the smoothest 5K's I’ve ever run. The 2km and 3km markers were misplaced, but thankfully my COROS Pace Pro GPS kept everything accurate.
This 18:46 is now the new benchmark for the rest of the series, as I aim to chip it down and get closer to my official 5K race PB of 18:19 before the Battersea Parkrun PB attempt in December.
Weekly Training Breakdown:
• Mon: 5km easy + 8 hill strides + 5km easy
• Tue: 12 x 400m at 5K pace (all ~90s, no “last one fast” to protect recovery)
• Wed: 60 minutes very easy with elevation
• Thu: Mona Fartlek – strong controlled session
• Fri: Rest day
• Sat: Isabel Trail Parkrun – PB 18:46
• Sun: 20km long run (4 x 5km progression from 5:25/km to 4:30/km)
This was a fantastic week and a huge confidence boost heading into the next phase of the Speed Block, building towards Battersea Parkrun on December 20th. After that, training shifts into the build-up for the Wilmslow Half Marathon on March 22nd 2026.
