This is a short video of me cleaning up my old London pattern anvil I bought in the north of France. The maker of this anvil is unknow as the makers mark is unrecognised. It is, however, marked with the numbers 2 3 14. Which are the weight indication numbers from the old english hundredweight system.
2 full hundred weight. So 2x112lbs. 3 quarters of a hundredweight. The highest this can be is 3. So 3 x 28lbs. The last number is the number of remaining pounds up to a maximum of 28, which is 14 in this case. Totaling in a weight of 322 pounds or 146 kg.
The edges of the anvil are still decent so all I did for now was cleaning off the rust with a steel wire wheel and giving it a light coat of linseed oil.
I also made a simple stand to put the anvil on, but haven't made any efforts yet to secure the anvil to the block.
Stay tuned for more projects and thanks for watching,
Marcel
