“It was about $30 last week and I stocked at eight gallons or nine gallons, no eight gallons because I couldn't afford to fill in my tank. I'm on social security. I can't afford this.”

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Joey Perillo, Pennsylvania resident:
“That is what I think: people will argue the president has nothing to do with gas prices and I agree with that, no matter who the president is. But I think something that a president does and initiates that was clearly going to cause some repercussions, such as the closing of the Strait of Hormuz - at least it could have been considered that could happen - well, that's going to cost the whole world money, and it is.”

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Emma Vlahoulis, Iowa resident:
“I have less in this tank than my old car, so it's not as expensive, but I filled up my old card to get to Omaha and I was like, oh, put like 15 in it, that'll get me like a third of a tank. And I got to 15 and I think I had like three gallons or four gallons. So I was, like, Oh.”

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Tyler Nepple, Florida resident:
“Not really much I can do to deal with it, unfortunately. Just got to fill it up, eat the bullet, and hope that the prices go down in the future. That's all I can really do.”

14. SOUNDBITE (English) Kevin Kertesz, North Carolina resident:
“The six month’s worth of gasoline that we have here in the United States has not gone up in price. It's the same price that it was two weeks ago, two months ago, five months ago. So, for all these gas stations to raise their prices overnight, it's a knee jerk reaction by the people who haul gasoline and the people who sell gasoline.”

16. SOUNDBITE (English) Rudiie Hendon, Michigan EV owner:
“There’s pros and cons. The pros to it: Yeah, it’s probably cheaper than getting gas right now, as the gas prices have gone up. Yeah, of course, electric is cheaper. But the cons to electric vehicles: you have to wait for an hour or two to charge the vehicle. It’s an inconvenience.”

STORYLINE:
The average price for a gallon of gasoline jumped 11 cents overnight in the U.S.
Depending on the duration of the war, the pain of higher prices could increase in the coming weeks, and may be felt more heavily in areas reliant on imports.
Across the United States, drivers lamented about the spike in prices.
In Graham, North Carolina, Kevin Kertesz placed the plane on gas stations.
“For all these gas stations to raise their prices overnight, it's a knee jerk reaction by the people who haul gasoline and the people we sell gasoline,” Kertesz said.
In Morrisville, Pennsylvania, Kathryn Price Engelhard said she had to be cautious budgeting for gas.
Electirc vehicle drivers may not be feeling pain at the pump, but some have their own qualms, such as Rudiie Hendon, in Livonia, Michigan.
