Welcome to our series on Reinforced Concrete Design to Eurocode 2.
In this lecture, Topic 2: Reinforced Concrete Section, Part 2, we demonstrate how the principles and assumptions introduced in Part 1 are applied in the design of reinforced concrete sections using calculations.
📌 In this lecture, we:
✅ Define design vs analysis and their applications in new and existing structures
✅ Explain the rectangular stress block method for singly-reinforced sections
✅ Derive expressions for compression force, tension force, lever arm, and moment of resistance
✅ Show how to calculate required steel area and select appropriate bar diameters
✅ Discuss minimum spacing requirements for reinforcement and practical considerations
✅ Compare rectangular vs parabolic-rectangular stress block distributions and their impact on design
