On 15 December, Dr Al Pinkerton MP walked the route Surrey County Council recommends for Lightwater based students attending Collingwood, following the withdrawal of the long standing school bus service for families in Lightwater. He was joined by his excellent journey companion, Will, carrying a very heavy school bag.
The route measured 5.85 kilometres and took 1 hour and 13 minutes at a good pace. It was dirty, steep, and genuinely dangerous, particularly in the dark and at twilight.
The Surrey Heath MP has since written again to Surrey County Council to raise serious concerns about the safety and suitability of this route for schoolchildren.
