thoughts-
first, new deskman :p, sorry if this threw some of y'all off haha. loved the design of the old one but was just showing a lot of wear.
didn't know they were dropping extras for the c9 though and had been really regretting not joining the C9 gb. just HAD to pick up one of these guys. imo one of the most classy looking boards out there, and for the quality / materials I think a fairly reasonable price point. but I will say, the neo boards really ruined pricing for most of the premium boards. the 60 and 65 cu both have full brass/copper bottoms for pretty much half the price XD. I dont have those yet, but comparing to the 75 cu its not even close, still great value for what you get, but you can just tell the difference in quality and more obviously the sound. is it twice as good? no, but it is better and a bit more unique.
now, considering the c9 is the same form factor as the f2-60 and about the same price I couldn't help comparing them. I have to say the f2 really puts things into perspective here for what geon has been doing. the cloudnine is a great board but when comparing to the f2 it is just not quite there as far as quality. the finish and quality of the f2 is just immaculate. super smooth matted silver ano that is unlike anything any other ano and the tolerances are super super tight and secure.
all this not to say the c9 is bad or anything, it is an excellent board. but the f2 I think is just undervalued for what it is. all things considered if there was no f2-60 I think the c9 would be one of the best for its layout, design, sound, materials and quality. and I do prefer the aesthetic of the c9 over the f2, a bit more elegant and classic style. the build was also fairly straightforward, nothing to complain about there. the f2 was a bit more of a hassle to build from the split o ring mount and the short cable.
the c9 is actually a fair bit heavier than the f2 too, I would think is from the full brass bottom vs the f2 having just brass weights. though surprisingly the f2 is quite a bit deeper and lower volume overall. I usually do prefer the deeper and muted sound but I think the c9 is just a bit better here, the f2 can just be too muted with some switches. I have the sonja in both boards atm and definitely prefer the c9 a bit more, at least with the sonja. and man, sonja have quickly become my favorites from hmx, really enjoying them. not quite a cherry replacement, but excellent switches.
definitely will be looking forward to more boards from machina though, considering this is one of their first boards and setting aside comparisons to geon- they made an awesome board. definitely cant go wrong with the c9, definitely recommend.
thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed the video and the little longer than usual review XD 💙
