Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
Heading up north 2km past the Lijersdraai picnic site we saw some lion tracks and lion scat in the middle of the road. We didn’t have to drive far before finding a magnificent male lying in the shade close to the roadside.
Have been told he is referred to as "Bulldog" and is the King of Polentswa since 2022.
Kgalagadi lions, often called Kalahari lions, are uniquely adapted to the harsh, arid conditions of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, characterized by sandy, red dunes and high temperature variations. Key features include their iconic large, black-tinted manes in males, larger paw sizes, leaner bodies for endurance, and smaller, more scattered pride structures.
