I haven't left this cab in forty-three days.
Forty-three days of sitting in a space roughly the size of a small bathroom, two hundred and seventeen feet above a construction site that's now a graveyard. The crane operator's chair—Pete's chair, though Pete's been dead since day two—has molded itself to my ass in ways that would be funny if anything could be funny anymore. The vinyl is cracked, yellow foam pushing through like infected flesh, and there's still a coffee stain on the right armrest from when Pete spilled his thermos that last morning. I don't look at it much.
