Mid-career and older professionals, managers, executives, and technicians (PMETs) require more structured redeployment pathways and stronger financial support for career transitions, said Workers' Party MP Gerald Giam.
Speaking in Parliament on 27 February, he urged the government to ensure that every Singaporean who wants to work, retrain, and contribute has the best possible opportunity to do so.
He proposed a more structured and targeted job placement programme, where mid-career jobseekers could have their applications and CVs reviewed and refined by specialists in their respective fields.
These specialists could then actively match and recommend candidates to employers, improving their chances of securing placements. Once hired, workers should receive training and salary support to facilitate a smoother transition into their new roles.
