At the Committee of Supply Debate 2026 for Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 27 February, Workers’ Party MP Gerald Giam said shifting global dynamics require Singapore to go beyond reliance on traditional partners and become a catalyst within ASEAN to strengthen collective bargaining power.
He called for deeper regional integration, stronger diplomatic ties, and more resident ambassadors in key middle powers. Giam also asked about Singapore’s position on the US-initiated Board of Peace and stressed expanding people-to-people ties, especially among youths.
