In Parliament on 27 February 2026, during the Committee of Supply debate, Workers’ Party MP Gerald Giam raised concerns over global defence procurement delays and supply chain risks.
Citing overseas backlogs as cautionary examples, Giam questioned how Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (Mindef) is diversifying suppliers, enforcing contract safeguards, and ensuring transparency through Auditor-General oversight without compromising secrecy.
Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing responded that Mindef’s audit framework is multi-layered and includes oversight of classified projects. He said Singapore is expanding partnerships, including with non-traditional and technology partners, to strengthen resilience, while maintaining strict procurement standards and lifecycle support to safeguard operational readiness.
