Poblacion, the site of Makati’s first settlement around San Pedro Macati Church, has once again made Time Out’s Coolest Neighbourhoods in the World list for 2025.
In the 1990s, after Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim shut down the red-light district in Ermita, many bars relocated to P. Burgos Street, giving Poblacion its reputation as Metro Manila’s red-light district.
In the early 2000s, a wave of South Korean businesses transformed it into the country’s “Little Korea Town.”
The shift toward gentrification began in 2013 with the opening of El Chupacabra, sparking trendy restaurants, bars, and boutique hostels, transforming Poblacion from a historic settlement and gritty nightlife hub into a global hotspot.
