About Kelly: Kelly was rescued the day before after becoming entangled in fishing line and taken to the hospital.
Health Status: Kelly is in critical condition. She has fibropapilloma (FP), which causes visible tumors around her eyes and neck. Kelly is also emaciated, indicating a long-standing condition, and has a lot of algae (epibiota) on her shell, a sign of inactivity or lethargy. She is very weak and sedentary.
Initial Check-Up and Care: Video of Kelly's first check-up with Dr. Terry Norton and the rehabilitation team. They take blood samples to check vital signs, do a preliminary cleaning of her shell, and administer subcutaneous fluids to rehydrate her.
Prognosis and Plan: Kelly will have a CT scan the following day to check for internal tumors. If there is no internal tumor (which is currently untreatable), the turtle will have the opportunity to undergo surgery to remove the external tumors and rehabilitate with the hope of eventually being released back into the wild.
