Arena Basics: Create and Dispose Modules

Описание: This video covers create and dispose modules in Arena 16 by Rockwell Automation. Settings are detailed and two examples, including how to do Kanban in Arena, are included.

Create:
This module is intended as the starting point for entities in a simulation model. Entities are created using a schedule or based on a time between arrivals. Entities then leave the module to begin processing through the system. The entity type is specified in this module.

The entity type will be automatically added to the Entity spreadsheet, using default values for entity picture and costing information. The default values may be changed by clicking on the Entity module and modifying the specified entity type.

If a schedule is specified, it will automatically be added to the Schedule spreadsheet. See the Schedule module for more information on specifying arrival schedules.

If you have a deterministic system, Constant should be used for the interarrival Type. If you have a stochastic system, the most appropriate distribution for interarrival times is Exponential. Exponential is used for both Random and Schedule types. In the case of random arrivals, the Value is used as the mean of the exponential distribution. In the case of scheduled arrivals, the non-stationary exponential is used, with the value of the schedule representing the mean of the exponential distribution.

To use a schedule for a deterministic system, a schedule may be created of type Other (see the Schedule module), where the value for the schedule is the interarrival time. Then, within the Create module, use the type Expression and specify SchedValue(Schedule Name) for the expression. This works well when the numbers align perfectly with the time slots. If they don’t, the schedule will approximate, as it doesn’t have boundary-crossing logic.

If the Entities per Arrival is greater than one, the entire batch of entities is created at the same simulation time. However, the entities enter the model one at a time to be processed until reaching a time delay, being disposed, or entering a queue (such as in a Batch or Process module).

A simulation may be terminated by limiting the number of entities generated at all Create modules (i.e., providing a value for Max Arrivals) and defaulting the Replication Length (in the Replication Parameters dialog of the Run - Setup command). In this case, the simulation will run until all entities have been processed through the system.

When an entity enters the simulation model, the entity’s Entity.CreateTime attribute is set to the current simulation time. The entity also is assigned a unique number in its Entity.SerialNumber attribute. This value increases as new entities arrive during the simulation run. This value might be used in a Batch module to match together entities that were previously separated for parallel processing.

Dispose:
This module is intended as the ending point for entities in a simulation model. Entity statistics may be recorded before the entity is disposed.

If the Entities Statistics Collection field is checked within the Project Parameters page of the Run/Setup menu item, entity statistics include VA Time, NVA Time, Wait Time, Transfer Time, Other Time and entity Total Time. If the Costing Statistics Collection field is also checked within the Project Parameters page of the Run/Setup menu item, additional entity statistics include VA Cost, NVA Cost, Wait Cost, Transfer Cost, Other Cost, and Total Cost. Additionally, the number of entities leaving the system (for that given entity type) and currently in the system (WIP) are calculated.
