Pokemon LeafGreen No Catching Challenge (Switch): A Feeble Second Team Member

(3/10/2026) Continuing my LeafGreen "no catching" challenge, I acquire my second team member at the Route 4 Pokemon Center at the entrance to Mt. Moon: a Magikarp at Level 5 from the Magikarp salesman. This Magikarp has a Lax Nature, which is +Defense, -Special Defense.
Obviously, training up Magikarp is a pain to do because it only knows Splash until learning Tackle at Level 15. However, it gets good once it evolves into Gyarados at Level 20 and learns Bite. I've even used Gyarados on my team in a casual playthrough of Ruby.
I named my future Gyarados Dragoneel after the enemy in the Mario franchise. Because this is my only option for a second team member for a good while, I'll have to take it.
