Tindfjöll Circle Hike - The best day hike in Þórsmörk Nature Reserve

Описание: The best day hike in Thorsmork is the Tindfjoll Circle hike. This hike has beautiful views over the Þórsmörk Nature Reserve and one of the best viewpoints in Þórsmörk. The hike takes around 4 -5 hours if you don’t stop, but we took 6 hours with a nice long lunch stop at the top. This is one of the most beautiful places in the Highlands of Iceland.

This hike starts by heading along the Krossa Riverbed and then head steadily up hill until you get to the Tindfjallaslétta plateau. As you make your way around the Tindfjöll Mountains along the flat plateau, the trail leads onto the Stangarháls Ridge. The views from the top are breathtaking. From the bottom of the valley, you can head back to the Volcano Huts and enjoy some snacks while you wait for the Highlands bus to pick you up. Most parts of the trail are well marked and it is fairly accessible while it is also challenging in parts due to steep sections.

There are several hikes in the area that you can enjoy over the course of a few days. The only way to get into the Highlands here is by taking the Highlands bus from Reykjavík or Hella. You can also take a super Jeep tour or rent a capable off-road vehicle. There are several river crossings to get to this area and many tourists have sunk their cars in the river. Use caution if you plan to drive yourself.

You can find your way along this path by following the orange markers the entire way. If you want to get a different view on the way back, you can take the path with the red markers instead make sure to bring enough water and snacks to last you for the day. There are only restroom facilities at the campgrounds so plan accordingly.
