A Pathway toward Resilient, Green, and Inclusive School Infrastructure

Описание: Millions of children around the world attend classes in vulnerable schools. While governments strive to safely reopen schools during the pandemic, ever more frequent and severe natural hazards continue to hit educational systems every day, further exacerbating learning poverty.

Infrastructure managers struggle to operate school infrastructure and meet these challenges in a constrained budget environment. More than ever, investing efficiently in resilient school infrastructure is critical. As the biggest financier of education in the world, the World Bank is in a unique position to meet growing demand and propose sustainable solutions that can be implemented at scale.

In this session, the Global Program for Safer Schools (GPSS) will present a strategic approach to engage with governments on the topic of school infrastructure based on project experience from more than 25 countries. Using the example of a safer schools engagement in the Kyrgyz Republic, the training aims to help Task Team Leaders:

understand key concepts around school infrastructure and disaster risk and their impacts on the education sector and school communities;

learn about a comprehensive framework - including methodologies, tools, and resources available - for the design of large-scale intervention strategies and investment plans that maximize benefits from the available budget;

and, ultimately, understand how to successfully implement a school infrastructure project together with government stakeholders in order to advance the safer schools agenda.
