Video Overview
In this lecture, we introduce the fundamental role of optimization in machine learning. We explore how optimization is used to convert data into decisions, focusing on finding the best classifier by minimizing loss or maximizing reward.
We then take a step back to examine the mathematical framework of optimization, using a simple “cow in a field” example to illustrate how optimization problems are formulated with constraints. This session sets the stage for understanding algorithmic approaches to solving optimization problems in machine learning.
