Video Overview
This lecture introduces constrained optimization problems with a single inequality constraint. We explore how to check if a solution is optimal by analyzing the ideas of descent and feasible directions.Through a thought experiment, we illustrate the necessary conditions for optimality and introduce the principle that no descent direction should be feasible at an optimal point. Finally, we examine the relationship between the gradients of the objective function and the constraint function in determining optimality.
