In this Researcher Spotlight, Dr Xinyu (Henry) Li, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Responsible AI Research (RAIR) Centre within the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML), shares his work in AI for science.

Dr Li's earlier research was in applying AI to accelerate the discovery of new medicines for diseases such as cancer, and new materials that can convert carbon dioxide into fuels. Today, his research explores agentic scientific discovery and causal AI for science. By moving beyond correlation-based models, he aims to uncover the design principles behind molecules and materials, helping scientists understand not just what works, but why.
