During the summer of 1939 Glenn Miller and his Orchestra were enjoying a very successful engagement at the Glen Island Casino in New Rochelle, NY. On Saturday, July 22nd, Glenn’s vocalist Marion Hutton collapsed on the bandstand. Doctors blamed nervous indigestion and exhaustion. Marion underwent a minor sinus operation before returning to the band on August 1st. In the meantime Kay Starr was flown in from Memphis to replace Marion during this period. This program opens with a comment from Kay about her time with Glenn and then you’ll hear her first radio program with the band from Monday July 24th broadcast on NBC and WJR at 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
