In this video, we explore close hold in more detail, with a special focus on the follower’s perspective.
We look at how good connection comes from comfortable, intentional contact, not from holding tighter or trying harder.
Key ideas covered in this video:
stepping into your partner’s space to create connection
maintaining gentle centre contact (buttons to braces!)
staying offset, not toe-to-toe
keeping the body relaxed so movement can flow
For followers, we focus on the left arm connection:
aim for maximum surface-area contact along your partner’s arm
avoid just touching with fingertips, which creates gaps and weakens the connection
rest your arm softly along your partner’s arm — relaxed, not pressing
We also show:
how the leader’s right arm connects along the follower’s back, not just with the hand
how relaxed arms allow the follower to be carried easily by the lead, rather than deciding where the arms go
You’ll see the position demonstrated from different angles, including how the feet are staggered for comfort and balance, and how the head and gaze naturally align.
This video is about developing ease, trust, and comfort in close hold — essential for jig kicks and partnered Charleston in your Lindy Jazz journey.
Relax, make contact, and let the connection do the work.
