In a major development in the 2024 Pune Porsche hit-and-run case, the Supreme Court of India has granted bail to three accused — Ashish Satish Mittal, Aditya Avinash Sood, and Amar Santhosh Gaikwad — who were alleged to have swapped blood samples during the investigation. These accused had been in jail for the past 18 months.
The case dates back to May 19, 2024, when two young engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, were tragically killed after a speeding Porsche, allegedly driven by an inebriated 17-year-old from a Pune realtor’s family, collided with their motorcycle at Kalyani Nagar Junction. The subsequent investigation revealed tampering with blood samples, bribery, and abuse of power at Sassoon General Hospital. The minor driver’s parents were also implicated for allegedly orchestrating the swap of their son’s blood sample with the mother’s.
While granting bail, Justice B.V. Nagarathna stressed the responsibility of parents, stating that “parents are responsible for handing over vehicles and money to children without supervision,” highlighting a lack of parental guidance as a factor in such tragedies.
The Supreme Court’s decision overturns the Bombay High Court’s December 16, 2025 order, which had denied bail citing the risk of tampering with evidence and undue influence using wealth and power. The bench of Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan directed that the accused be released on bail under conditions as set by the trial court.
This case has sparked widespread debate on parental responsibility, juvenile accountability, and the role of money in influencing justice.
