Rhaegar stands on top of the Wall above Castle Black, lilac eyes surveying the true north. His dreams had been troubling him, he'd been seeing visions of a cave with a dead man in the roots of a weirwood. Tapping his fingers against the battlements, Rhaegar wonders if this cave could be beyond the Wall. Finally, he makes his decision and demands to be let through the Wall. Though the Lord Commander is reluctant to let the Crown Prince through the Wall, Rhaegar insists and is allowed to ride out into the Lands Beyond the Wall. Not wanting to delay, Rhaegar rides until he reaches the Cave of the Last Greenseer. When Rhaegar enters, the dead man in the roots lifts his head to fix a single red eye on his visitor.

Bloodraven: At last, Rhaegar, you've come. There is much I need to tell you and little time to do so.

Rhaegar: You must be Lord Bloodraven. Your single red eye and the sword in the roots name you. Why have you invited me here?

Bloodraven: Because there are forces moving that require my immediate action. There are those beyond the Narrow Sea who wish to dethrone House Targaryen, and they are putting in place plans using their agents in Westeros to undo all of my work. Soon, they shall have the means to enact their plan.

Rhaegar: What plan? Tell me more.

Bloodraven: I do not know who they are, only that they seem to be sympathizers with my ancient enemy the Blackfyre Pretenders. You will need to restore House Targaryen to its former glory in order to stand before them.

Rhaegar: Barristan Selmy slew the last Blackfyre on the Stepstones. That line was broken.

Bloodraven: A line can be remade if a son is born to a daughter. Only Maelys died on the Stepstones. Others could be out there.

Rhaegar: So, what must I do?

Bloodraven: First, take Dark Sister south, it will restore a great deal of prestige, especially since your father's mental state is deteriorating. With you holding the sword of the Dragonknight, a measure of our house's reputation would be restored. The second is twofold, there are two things that must be taken, you must betrothe yourself to the girl Lyanna Stark as your second wife, and you must find the secret within the underground springs in Winterfell. Four dragon eggs that have remained there since Vermax laid a clutch in the Winterfell Godswood.

Rhaegar: But what of Summerhall? My whole family died because we attempted to birth dragons. How can I prevent this?

Bloodraven: Two things, one, your mother must place the eggs in the cradles of your children and your siblings. The other is that one of them must be saved for your son with Lyanna. Even if he is not born until three years after, one dragon must be given to him.

Rhaegar: All right, hopefully Lord Rickard will be willing.

Bloodraven: I think he will, but you should tell him that you mean to support his southern ambitions and will smooth the way for him in order to peak his interest. Also, Robert Baratheon must be courted as your ally, if he is not on your side, you will lose.

Nodding, Rhaegar grabs the sword and quickly departs. When he arrives in Winterfell near twilight, he immediately asks to speak with Lord Rickard in private. The Lord of Winterfell isn't sure what to think of the Prince asking for a betrothal to his daughter, as well as asking for the dragon eggs. However, after some negotiating where Rhaegar promises to smooth the way for his southern ambitions as well as name him master of laws when he ascends to the Throne, Rickard agrees to the Prince's deal and brings him down into the depths of Winterfell.

Rickard: I never thought anyone would come to claim these, we've kept these safe for a long time.

Rhaegar: They've been waiting here for just a time as this, Lord Rickard. The realm will need these soon.

Rickard: Well, who knows if they will hatch.

Rhaegar: Oh, they will, I know the means of hatching them.

Wondering if the prince has taken leave of his senses, Rickard unlocks a cabinet to reveal four dragon eggs sitting within a steaming pool of piping hot water.
