Former Conservative chancellor Sir Jeremy Hunt has warned the Iran war could push up energy costs and inflation.
Speaking to Sky News, he says that his rule of thumb as chancellor was: "If international oil and gas prices go up by 20%, that's 1% higher inflation and half a percent lower growth. And you cannot ignore that kind of impact on the economy."
He suggests that while the government may not want to make any policy measures in today's spring forecast, "they are going to have to react to the events in Iran" if the conflict continues."
