“Sheel Sheel” puppet show created & performed by Diana Sette with inspiration from Gaza Birds Singing Founder, Ahmed “Muin” Abu Amsha’s “Sheel Sheel” folksong taken from the chorus of Libre Palestina by Zaid Hilal.
Original Lyrics:
شيل شيل عالجماله شيل يا حوطك بالله دم الشهيد معطر بالهيل ليل يا ليلو ويل ويل عالظالمي ليل ويلو من الله لسهر على نجوم الليل أنا داويلو
English Translation: Carry him, carry him, O camel driver I entrust you to God's care. The blood of the martyr is perfumed with cardamom. O night, O night Woe, woe to the oppressor, from God, I shall stay up with the night stars Calling out to Him.
