Hey there hungry people, this is Ashray with Food Flipped. I was recently at an awesome little Cuban place here and I wanted to make one at home, but didn’t want to go through the labor of making the pork that brings a Cubano together. So I went ahead and created a recipe that delivered the same flavors, but in burger form. Lets get right into this recipe.
Ingredients:
1/4 to 1/3 lbs 80-20 ground beef
1 tbsp kosher salt
1/2 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tbsp cumin
1/2 tbsp oregano
2 garlic cloves
1 Tbsp Orange Juice
1 tbsp dijon mustard
1 tbsp ground mustard
1 tbsp panko bread crumbs
Bread Bun
Black Forest Ham
Gruyere Cheese
Pickles
Butter
Oil
Recipe:
Mix ingredients 1-10 in a bowl
In a hot skillet toast bread buns with some oil
In the same skillet cook burger browning on both sides
Once the first side is browned, flip and top with cheese
Cover to help melt the cheese
Remove and let rest
In the same skillet, brown ham slices
For assemble, add mustard on both bread slices, top with ham, burger, then pickles
Bring back to the skillet and toast outside of the bread, weighting down the sandwich to create a panini like effect

So we are going to start with some nice 80/20 beef and hit it with some salt, brown sugar, cumin, oregano, garlic, some OJ, mustard, and some bread crumbs to help bind this together. And we mix.
In a hot pan, we are going to toast off our buns. Once that is done we will pulp down a nicely formed patty smashing it down. After we flip we are going to add gruyere cheese to melt on top, covering to help that happen and set aside. In the same pan, we are going to just slightly brown our ham slices for the burger, you can see those nice carmalized bits that will add some much flavor to this dish.
Okay assembly time, we are starting with a layer of mustard, ham, burger, pickles and more mustard. Next we are taking it back to the pan to toast and panini this burger on both sides.
And boom we are done, I served it with a little mojo sauce on the side, but that was not necessary, this was juicy, meaty, just packed with flavor that melted in my mouth!
