After Mist Castle, I headed back to Fukui City to take it easy. The hotel itself had a floor for hot springs, as well as many free treats in the next door and in my room's fridge! I definitely took advantage of the relaxing amenities.
The next day, I knew I had several buses to take to visit multiple parts in near the city. I first headed to the Ichijodani Asakura Ruins, which are historic remains of a samurai clan called Asakura. It was burned down to the ground way back in 1573 and excavation started to happen about 400 years later. As you can see, it's really a ruin, with not much structure (although across the road is this restored town that I didn't have time to check out). What stood out to me, however, was the short paths that led to some gorgeous nature. The town may be gone, but the terrain was full of green life and as if untouched.
Again, it was a bit away from much else, as I only saw one restaurant that I could eat at and I had to plan ahead when to took the bus or else I'd have to wait another 30 minutes. Limited services and accommodations, but I haven't seen Japan this quiet.
