In this study, we examine Genesis 47:27–48:22 — Jacob’s final days and his blessing upon Joseph’s sons.
In this passage we see:
• Israel settling in Goshen and multiplying
• Jacob nearing death
• Jacob making Joseph swear to bury him in Canaan
• Jacob recalling God’s covenant promise
• Ephraim and Manasseh brought before Jacob
• Jacob adopting them as his own
• The younger (Ephraim) placed before the older (Manasseh)
• The blessing crossing hands
• The continuation of covenant promise through Joseph’s line
This section highlights God’s sovereign choice once again. As before, the younger is placed ahead of the older — not by accident, but by divine purpose.
Genesis 48 reminds us that God’s covenant purposes do not follow human custom or expectation. The promise continues according to God’s will.
