People think the hardest part of being gay is coming out.
But no one talks about what it’s like when you can’t come out yet.
In this video, I talk honestly about what it’s like being gay but not able to come out, not because of shame, but because of safety.
I grew up in a religious environment where homosexuality is frowned upon, and for many people in similar situations, coming out too early can risk housing, family relationships, or personal safety. This video is not about fear or weakness. It’s about survival.
I talk about the mental toll of living two versions of yourself, code switching at home and outside, constantly monitoring what you say, and having to dim your light around the people you love. I also talk about the guilt, confusion, and loneliness that comes with hiding a part of who you are, even when you know you’re doing it to protect yourself.
If you’re gay and not able to come out yet, I want you to know this:
You are not behind in life.
You are not weak.
And you do not owe anyone your truth before it’s safe.
If this video resonated with you, feel free to share your experience in the comments. I read everything, and you’re not alone.
