After a week of looking at the ocean while cycling along the coastal route 11, I'm ready for some mountain views just to have a change of scenery. So I decided to change route and cycled between the mountain ranges in Taiwan's East Rift Valley.

From Taitung City, I took a train to Yuli with my bicycle, a small town in the East Rift Valley. It's so easy to take your bicycle with you into the train, just have to let the staff know that you are boarding the train with your bike, and they will issue 2 tickets: one for you and one for your bike.

Taiwan's East Rift Valley is a scenic region nestled between the Central and Coastal Mountain Ranges, known for its rice paddies and sweeping views of nature. It is also a major tectonic boundary where the Philippine Sea Plate meets the Eurasian Plate.

The collision of the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian Plate is what formed the island of Taiwan. Cycling in between these two tectonic plates sure felt surreal.

In Chishang, there's a famous avenue in between paddy fields called Mr. Brown Avenue. Coincidentally, my bike is also called Mr. Brown. So of course I had to bring my bike there.

Depending on the season, rice paddy fields are either golden or green. But when I was there in July, it was the harvest season, so the fields were mostly brown. Still beautiful though.
