Описание: Last time I talked about N’djole , and Imani is also being raised by her surrogate mother, Alvila. She was bottle-fed, but Alvila would hold her. However, after Alvila’s own daughter, Azizi , was born, Alvila probably focused on holding her own daughter. Azizi was also bottle-fed, but Alvila may have been taking care of both her daughter Azizi and Imani.

Since Azizi was born when Imani was two years old, it's possible that Azizi was the one being hugged by Alvila from the age of two onwards. We don't know the details, but N’djole became a troublemaker because she lacked a mother to breastfeed her, and I sometimes wonder if Imani's occasional meanness is due to a lack of maternal affection.

前回インジョーレの話をしましたが、イマニも代理母のアルヴィラに育ててもらっています。哺乳瓶育ちですが、アルヴィラが彼女を抱きしめてあげてました。ですが　アルヴィラの娘アジジが生まれた後は、おそらくアルヴィラは自分の娘を抱きしめていたでしょう。アジジも哺乳瓶育ちですが、アルヴィラは娘のアジジとイマニの両方の面倒を見ていたのかも知れません。

イマニが2歳の時にアジジが生まれているので、2歳以降はアジジがアルヴィラに抱きしめられていたのかも知れません。詳細は分かりませんが、インジョーレは3歳で授乳してくれる母親がいなく、トラブルメーカーになりましたが、イマニが時々意地悪なのは母親の愛情不足なのではないかと思ったりします。

ゴリラを観察していると、ゴリラも私の方を見る事があります。通常ファミリーシルバーバックが私の方を見る時は、危険人物ではないか確認のために見ますが、ポールの場合は違います。ポールが私の方を見る時は　自分たちの安全確認のためではなく　まるで私に挨拶するように、私に優しく話しかけるように見ます。そういうゴリラは珍しいです。ポールはどこか人間に対し　心を開いているように見えます。

When I observe the gorillas, they sometimes look back at me. Usually, when the family's silverback looks at me, it's to assess whether I'm a threat, but with Paul, it's different. When Paul looks at me, it's not to check on their safety, but rather as if he's greeting me or speaking to me kindly. Such a gorilla is rare. Paul seems to have an open heart towards humans.

以前ウィンストンが私の方を見る時は、いつも私がウィンストンを見ていない時に私の方を見ていました。ふと私がウィンストンを見て、ウィンストンと目が合うと、ウィンストンは慌てて目を逸らしていました。それはマナーの良い通常のゴリラがする作法です。ウィンストンはとてもマナーの良いゴリラでした。人口保育で育ったゴリラは人間に対して親近感を持つ事はよくありますが、ポールは人工保育ではありませんが　人間に対し　警戒心はないように見えます。

Previously, whenever Winston looked at me, he would always do so when I wasn't looking at him. If I happened to look at Winston and our eyes met, he would quickly look away. This is the typical behavior of a well-mannered gorilla. Winston was a very well-mannered gorilla.
Gorillas raised in hand reared often develop a sense of familiarity with humans, and while Paul wasn't hand raised, he doesn't seem to show any wariness towards humans.
