Most undergraduate engineering electromagnetics courses cover phasors, instantaneous waves, wave equations, transmission line theory and then plane waves over the course of multiple chapters and weeks. It's easy to get lost and forget how these are all related.
In this video, let's put it all together. First we'll review the wave equation solution and the relationship with the phasor and instantaneous waves. This will help us understand why we have the 'standard' wave solution and where it comes from. Then we will quickly derive wave solutions to the TEM transmission line and plane wave in parallel. The parallel derivation will emphasize the similarity between these transmission lines and plane waves in the TEM cases.
