QGIS4Arch is a free online course for learning QGIS, an open source geographic information system (GIS) software package. This course is for those who works with cultural heritage resources, including archaeologists, architectural historians, and historians. The course is designed to take you from beginner to expert. This video uses QGIS Latest Release version 3.12.
Update 01: The USGS has changed how you access GNIS (aka Domestic Names) data, requiring you do so through The National Map (TNM). As such, the download link for the data has been updated below. If you want to download a different state, access the National Map website (https://apps.nationalmap.gov/downloader/) and choose "Selectable Polygon" and then US State or Territory from the Area of Interest drop-down menus. Next, click the box next to "Names - Geographic Names Information System (GNIS)" under Data. Click on a state in the right-hand map and then click "Search Products" to access a downloadable zip archive.
Update 02: GNIS datasets no longer include cemeteries. As such, this tutorial requires a legacy dataset. You can download it below.
