If you’re a combat athlete that wants to be feared for powerful strike and takedowns, then you have to be training the a-lactic system.
The a-lactic system is an anaerobic energy system, so no oxygen is used but its also your most powerful energy system.
It’s extremely effective in short bursts up to 6 seconds, but it fatigues just as fast! Think top sprinters or weight lifters.
The best way to train your a-lactic system is through short duration sprints, or power exercises like Olympic lifts, or plyometrics.
At first you want to rest 3-5 min between sets to let your body fully recover and build power.
Then, over time, you can shorten the rest to start increasing your explosive repeatability.
