Some night shots on an October evening at the Level Crossing beside Westerfield Station in Suffolk. The crossing was renewed in 2019 from an Automatic Half Barrier crossing to have full width road barriers, controlled and monitored from Colchester Signal Box. Every Wigwag here has long shades over the red lights and there are 4 Yodalarms, which had replaced the previous pair of E2S Apello Alarms here
All this action in this video came from the course of just over an hour on Thursday 24th October, between 20:30 and 21:30, as well as an early morning freight at 7am on Saturday 26th October, and a double stay, with a freight, on Friday 25th October. As the Felixstowe Branch Line emerges from just beyond the station, all freight trains headed to or from Felixstowe have to pass through here, then head north towards Peterborough, or south to London. That's why many freights are seen coming through and I hope you enjoy them! As well as the passenger service (Class 755) that runs up and down the Felixstowe Branch all day, they are the only trains that stop at this station. The two additional Class 755's, that run on the East Suffolk Line (between Ipswich and Lowestoft) do not stop here
Unfortunately, I was still walking over the crossing, when Lowering 2 started (as the crossing did a 'Brayford'), so I'm sorry it is not as good, but I hope the other videos I took compensate for this, like the full barrier view I got in Lowering 6, and the up-close Freight Train shot in Lowering 4. The platform also has a unique halogen signal with long shades, and you get to see it change from red to green in Lowering 7! The number of passenger trains in this video balance the number of freight trains! I hope you enjoy what I filmed!
