A level crossing, controlled via CCTV from Colchester, located next to Westerfield Station on the East Suffolk Line, specifically the section shared with the hourly passenger services to/from Felixstowe as well as the many freight trains using the UK's busiest container port at Felixstowe. One of the tracks here is bi-directional as to allow trains to access and leave from the branch line, since there's only one crossover allowing trains to head towards the line located a short distance from the other side of the level crossing.
In 2019, the level crossing here was fully-renwed from an automatic half barrier (AHB) level crossing, and replaced with the current installation. What once was two 'E2S' alarms is now a total four 'Yodalarm' alarms making up the audible warning here, and all four barriers have supporter arms too. All warning lights (wigwags) here additionally have long shades over the red lights, and the bottom of a pair of 'bunk' wigwags closest to one of the station entrances seemingly has been struck round as it faces the station more than it does the road.
A total of 5 trains are seen in this video, spread out in two pairs and one single throughout three different lowerings. All trains bar the first passenger service were filmed from the station platforms as you can get a much better view of these from there than you can at the level crossing, given that the barriers also have tension chords in the way. The last, 66 747 "Made in Sheffield" in its distinct livery can be heard sounding three tones of its horn as it passes!
Thanks for watching!
